Reasons Your Old Videos Cannot Be Monetized

It is common knowledge that in the past that Nigerian content creators were ineligible to participate in the Facebook Partnership Monetization Program.  Making it impossible for Nigerian content creators to earn from their creative efforts.

But in June 2024 Facebook listed Nigerians into the program with Kenya, Egypt and some other African countries making it possible for content creators to be able to earn through various options such as In-Stream Ads, Live stream Ads, Ads on reels, including Bonuses, Subscription for a select few based on their decision. This has made it possible for creators to turn their content into a profitable business.

Since then, lots of questions have been asked around Facebook Monetization. Such as: Can I loose monetization after I have been monetized? Will my old videos earn me money after I am monetized?

In this blog post we will be focused on this particular Question: Will my old videos earn me money after I am monetized?
The answer to this question is NO! They will not.

In this Blog post I will like to open your eyes to the truth that most people don't know. Getting monetized is like hitting a reset button on your phone. It's a fresh or a new start for all content creators. The timer goes zero the day your page ticks green on your dash board.

What this implies is that all your videos posted when you were not monetized remains without monetization approval thus no income will be generated from them. (They will not be counted towards your earnings)

As a new creator you must understand the monetization timeline.

1. Post approval monetization from the day your page is approved. Any new content you create and publish becomes eligible for monetization.

2 There is no retroactive earnings meaning that no past or previous videos gets any  earnings. It is important to understand that, past videos no matter how popular will not generate any revenue.

3. Now you are monetized and have joined the club of content creators who are monetized congratulations but here's when the actual work begins. Now it is essential for you to play and abide by the rules to keep your earnings coming in. Meaning making sure you stay in line with Facebook community standards and partner monetization policies.

Now you may want to ask; How can I stay within Facebook partners monetization policies?

1. You must regularly review your content to make sure it aligns with Facebook guidelines. A single mistake can put your earnings at risk.
