Business development can be said to be the initiatives and activities carried out by a business owner that makes business better. These activities can be in many different forms like marketing, sales, business expansion, strategic partnerships, making strategic business decisions, strategic innovations, and the list goes on and on. 


A good and well planned business development must impact all parts of the business. Whether it's marketing, sales, products development. Before you start thinking I am already in Business this is not for me it's for people who want to start business. No, Business development is not for start ups it's for both existing and soon to be existing businesses.


Business development can be one of the fastest ways to grow your business. It can be very time intensive. It requires focus , planning, stamina and tenacity. If you do it the right way you'd reap hugely but when you do it wrongly it's very discouraging.
Here are some Ways you can strengthen or improve your business.


1. Know Your Competition 


Not just knowing there names but evaluate what they offer so you can differentiate yourself.what makes you stand out in the crowd? You should know it and work on it. This may be your best business development tool find it and use it!
 

2. Add Value And Build Trust. 


This is a very serious part of any business development plan. Instead of going after wallets, consider going after peoples hearts. Add value by building good relationship with customers. I am not saying you should start running after customers and irritating them. It's a business relationship keep it that way but yet find ways you can add value to their lives by providing knowledge, information, being an advisor, treating customers well, after sale services, and so on building trust takes time but is worth it. People rarely believe what you tell them rather they believe what they tell themselves. Your public persona and your actions over time is what will influence what people tell them about you.



3. Use Testimonials 


The use of testimonials is working wonders for so many businesses especially online businesses. I want to believe we have all leveled up and are online with our business at least Whatsapp. Use testimonials a lot of people want to hear what others are saying concerning your product and you. And the good thing is, it also helps to establish credibility. But don't go over board with the testimonials alot of times customers are aware of these things. Ask people for testimonials but make sure they write them of their own free will so it doesn't sound off when people read it. Words can actually give a person's emotions away.


4. Keep Your Eye On Reviews 


Customers always turn to online reviews these days. Reviews can actually tell much and help a customer to decide whether or not to do business with you. If you're on Google my business check your review section and make sure to respond. Show them you care this could attract new business

5. Ask For The Business. 

After you have made contact, submitted proposal, followed up and everything always ask for the business. You don't have to go soft on that or waste any more time. You can simply ask a direct question for example when do you want us to get started on this? This will help your prospect to give you a direct response and at least help you draw a conclusion aas to what's next so you can move on to something else. Post and talk about your business constantly and consistently. Do business presentations a closed mouth is a closed destiny.

6. Pay Close Attention To Your Business Sites

Pay attention to your website, your Facebook page, your WhatsApp business catalog, your Instagram and all your business pages. If you have a website pay attention to it. It's not enough to list your products and services and go away there must be constant updates and activities. Consider rewarding visitors who land on your website with a free gift. It pays to have a lot of free resources, informations, knowledge and tools to help them succeed too. Encourage them to share same with their friends. This is a kind of passive business development that will possibly pay off but doesn't cost you much.

7. Don't Let Relationships Go Cold

It's difficult to get new customers. It's more easier and cheaper to maintain existing ones. Value the relationship and keep your existing customers engaged. Use greetings, seasonal weekly monthly Send birthday wishes and notes on special occasions. You can even create your own group for your customers but first ask their permission before adding them to your WhatsApp groups. I would advice a Facebook group not WhatsApp cos a lot of people don't like being added to WhatsApp groups without any notice.

8. Sharpen Your Skills

Sharpen your skills by reading books and blog posts likes this. Also listen to podcasts. This will help you acquire more knowledge and insights. Readers never fail. Attend seminars, webnairs, take online classes and go to events. There are many convenient options for busy people to develop their skills.

9. Carry Your Staff Along

Make everyone working with you aware of how important your business is to you. Your staffs must be aware and carried along so they know what to do and say at any given time. Speed, politeness, energy can make the difference between losing or winning a customer. These must be communicated to all involved in your business.

Having the energy and enthusiasm will help you in achieving and moving your business forward. Find and accept invites to join Facebook groups where you can have opportunities to promote your business daily.
